The Librarians on television

from Christine…
“The Librarians” premiered on the Australian Broadcasting Commission last week, with much celebration by the profession including special showings and parties. Set in Melbourne, it features characters that you would probably recognise and sets you certainly would. Most people’s favourite is the front door which announces Interactive Learning Centre, with a word processed sign in a plastic sleeve stuck next to it saying “library.” The poetry evening was pretty close to the mark too. The show can be watched online at http://www.abc.net.au/tv/. Frances O’Brien, the head librarian, is on Facebook so if you need some more friends…
We are looking forward to 2 people visiting Melbourne early in the new year - Helene Blowers will be out for the VALA conference and Michael Stephens is being sponsored by CAVAL. It will be great to have the opportunity to hear both Helene and Michael. ALIA is also holding a symposium in Brisbane in early Feb called “Beyond the hype - Library 2.0“ so we will be well up to date with all in that sphere.
At Yarra Plenty we’ve incorporated LibraryThing for Libraries in our catalogue and its great. It creates a tag list under the item record and also lists similar books that the library holds. Clever people, those LibraryThing folk! check it out at www.yprl.vic.gov.au
