Become a Fan of a Library on Facebook

If you are a Facebook user, do you use the Library applications? Are you a fan of a library or library-related organization? Here are some applications: (the links provided are for the actual libraries, not the application on Facebook…read on to find out how to use them!)

  • My LibraryThing
    • This application is designed to allow you to import lists of books from your LibraryThing account and display them on your Facebook profile page.

This is how My LibraryThing shows up in your profile.

  • JSTOR Search
    • Search full text of articles archived in JSTOR. (You may need to add your library proxy server.)
  • SwemTools
    • Search the Swem Catalog and website, and even set your location in the library to share with your friends over your facebook profile.

  • Penn State University Libraries Search
    • The Penn State University Library Facebook application.

Notre Dame Library Search

This is what a typical screen looks like if you are adding applications. Do a search in Facebook and look for things you might be interested in - you can always delete it!

Be a fan of a library:

Join a group:

  • Medical Library Association
  • Support Public Libraries
  • Library 2.0 Interest Group
  • Save the British Library
  • Don’t Mess with Me, I Worked in a Public Library
  • Having fun isn’t hard, when you’ve got a library card!
  • American Friends of the Kigali Public Library

Have you been using Facebook to reach out to your users? Has it been effective?
