Disaster assistance available from SOLINET
Posted by Kara on 4 September, 2008 in Preservation
In light of the recent hurricanes, I just wanted to remind everybody that SOLINET has numerous resources available in the event of a small or large disaster. Whether it is a hurricane or a burst pipe, we are available to help you prepare for the event ahead of time (if possible) and deal with the aftermath.
You can contact Preservation Services at disaster@solinet.net or call our 1-800 number: 1-800-999-8558. We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. After hours, ask to speak to someone in Preservation services and our answering service will forward your information on to Preservation staff. You may also email us at disaster@solinet.net. You can find useful resources by going to
www.solinet.net/disaster/ . Here you will find disaster planning and prevention information, along with disaster recovery resources, and a form to fill out should you need assistance after the storm has passed . If needed, SOLINET will match you up with volunteers from our volunteer database. Please consider adding your name to our database of volunteers to help in the event that a disaster strikes an institution near you; you may do so by filling out the form at the bottom of the screen at
If you are forced to evacuate and need to let folks know where you are (including fellow staff members), you can let people know through the SOLINET disaster wiki:
http://www.solisandbox.com/disasterwiki
You can fill in the information yourself, or if you would like some assistance, you can have us do it for you by calling 1-800-999-8558 and asking to speak to someone in Preservation Services or on the Help Desk.
For those of you who may be in path of some of the upcoming tropical storms and hurricanes, you can find some useful information in preparing your collection before the storms hit:

Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you or your institution.
