Hurricane preparedness is on everyone’s mind these days. SOLINET’s Preservation Services offers information and training for libraries, archives and other cultural institutions in preparing for hurricanes and other disasters that might affect their collections. However, libraries also play a role in supporting their communities during and after a major disaster. Until now, no one has studied this vital role or provided resources for libraries to help their communities recover from a hurricane. The Information Use Management & Policy Institute of Florida State University (FSU) has been awarded a grant by the Florida Catastrophic Storm Risk Management Center at FSU’s College of Business to identify best practices and guidelines for public libraries that provide service and help to their users following a hurricane. SOLINET is a partner in this exciting new project. Watch this space for more news and updates, including posts from guest bloggers at FSU.
