February 10th is Library Advocacy Day. See how effective Library Advocates are at sustaining library funding by reading the ALA Washington Office’s blog, District Dispatch.
Any day is a good day to contact your elected officials to advocate for library funding. You can find your United States Senators and Congresspeople here to write or call them to support library funding legislation.
Here are a few tips for communicating with your elected officials:
1. Don’t be afraid to approach them with your request. They love to hear from voting constituents–that’s why we call them your elected officials.
2. Know and cite the bill number you are asking him or her to support or defeat. It also helps to know the bills sponsors.
3. Develop several talking points to support your request. Examples can be found on the District Dispatch blog.
Happy Library Advocacy Day!
